About Superman: Escape from Krypton

★ First roller coaster to reach 100 mph; tallest in the world at opening (1997, as Superman: The Escape)

Superman: Escape from Krypton was a launched steel roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, USA. It opened in 1997 and closed in 2025. The ride stood 415 feet tall, dropped 328 feet and reached 100 mph over 1,235 feet of track.

Twin towers launch trains backward and forward in reverse, sending riders into several seconds of weightlessness at the top — a ride built to set records rather than complete a traditional circuit.

Field note: last operated in 2024; Six Flags confirmed its permanent closure in March 2025.
