★ Steepest wooden coaster drop in North America at opening (76°)
El Toro is a wooden roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey, USA, open since 2006. The ride stands 181 feet tall, drops 176 feet and reaches 70 mph over 4,400 feet of track.
El Toro proved wooden coasters could still out-thrill steel ones. Its 76-degree first drop was among the steepest wooden drops ever built, and its airtime hills throw riders out of their seats for most of the ride.
Field note: named for the bull mascot of the ride's Mexican-village themed area.
