Privacy Policy
Coaster Archives (coasterarchives.com) is a roller coaster database where riders can log the coasters they've ridden and post reviews. This page explains what the site collects, why, what other people can see, and how to have your data deleted. Questions: jonahcook1216@outlook.com.
What we collect
If you create an account with email: your email address, the display name you choose, and your password, which is stored only as a one-way hash, so no one (including us) can read it.
If you sign in with Google: Google tells us your name and your verified email address. We use them to create or find your account. We don't get your Google password, contacts, or any other Google data, and we don't post anything to your Google account.
Things you add: the coasters you mark as ridden or favorite, your ratings and reviews, and, if you choose, a profile photo and a short bio.
A sign-in cookie: when you sign in we set one cookie (ca_session) so the site remembers you. It lasts up to 30 days or until you sign out.
Your browser's storage: without an account, your ride list is kept only in your own browser (localStorage). It is sent to us only when you create an account or sign in, so your rides can be saved to it. Your visit streak and which stories you've seen stay in your browser and are never sent to us.
Photos you add to reviews: you can attach photos you took yourself to your review of a coaster. They are public, shown with your review and your account name. Before upload, your browser shrinks each photo and removes its hidden camera data, including GPS location. You can remove your photos at any time from the coaster's page. To keep the site to riders' own photos, each photo is checked automatically when you post it, using Google Cloud Vision: it looks for the same picture elsewhere on the web and for inappropriate content. Your browser also sends the camera model and the time the photo was taken (never its location) to help with this. Photos that fail the check are removed from your review, and we may remove other photos that aren't yours or don't belong on the site.
How you found us: on your first visit, your browser notes how you arrived (for example "Instagram ad", "Google search" or "Direct") and the first page you opened. If you create an account, that note is saved with it so we can see which places bring new riders. It doesn't include your browsing history or any other site's data.
Basic server logs: our host, Netlify, records standard request information such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to run and protect the site.
What other people can see
Your display name, profile photo, bio, reviews, ratings and your ridden coaster list and counts are public. Anyone can view them on your profile and next to your reviews. Your email address is never shown publicly.
How we use it
- To run your account: signing you in, saving your ride count and showing your reviews.
- To show site-wide numbers such as ratings, save counts and trending coasters.
- To keep the site working and secure.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't send you marketing email.
Advertising
The site shows ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can learn more and turn off personalized ads at Google's advertising page and Ad Settings.
Services we rely on
- Netlify hosts the site and stores account data in its database.
- Google provides Sign in with Google, AdSense ads and web fonts.
- Wikimedia Commons hosts many of the coaster photos and park logos, which your browser loads directly from Wikimedia.
Deleting your data
Email jonahcook1216@outlook.com from the address on your account and we'll delete your account, reviews, ride lists and profile photo. Data kept only in your browser can be cleared at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
Children
Coaster Archives is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
