About Volcano, the Blast Coaster

★ First inverted launch coaster in the world

Volcano, the Blast Coaster was a launched steel roller coaster at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia, USA. It opened in 1998 and closed in 2019. The ride stood 154 feet tall, dropped 143 feet and reached 70 mph over 2,756 feet of track, with 4 inversions.

An Intamin suspended launch coaster that fired riders out of a mountain-themed structure and through inversions before returning inside — one of the most unusual coasters ever built.

Field note: closed in 2019 over structural support concerns and was later demolished.
