About Steel Taipan
★ Australia's first hypercoaster; tallest & fastest coaster in the country at opening (2018)
Steel Taipan is a steel roller coaster at Dreamworld in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, open since 2018. The ride stands 115 feet tall, drops 90 feet and reaches 62 mph over 3,888 feet of track.
Steel Taipan brought the hypercoaster category to Australia for the first time, its airtime-filled layout modeled on the country's fastest venomous snake.
Field note: replaced an earlier coaster on the same site that closed after a fatal 2016 accident on a different ride at the park.
