★ One of the oldest continuously operating wooden roller coasters in the world (opened 1914)
Rutschebanen (Scenic Railway) is a wooden roller coaster at Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark, open since 1914. The ride stands 45 feet tall, drops 28 feet and reaches 41 mph over 2,543 feet of track.
Every train on this century-old coaster still carries a dedicated on-board brakeman, who manually controls speed through the layout's mountain-themed hills exactly as operators have done since 1914.
Field note: over a hundred years old and still requires a human brakeman on every ride, a practice long abandoned elsewhere.
