★ World's tallest & fastest steel roller coaster at opening (1996)
Fujiyama is a steel roller coaster at Fuji-Q Highland in Fujiyoshida, Japan, open since 1996. The ride stands 259 feet tall, drops 230 feet and reaches 80 mph over 6,708 feet of track.
Named for the nearby mountain, Fujiyama held the world height and speed records for steel coasters when it opened, a title it kept for several years before taller giga coasters arrived.
Field note: still one of the longest-running record holders to keep its original track layout unmodified.
